Mini Tightrope Bunionectomy: Day 5

September 13, 2011

The  pain must be abating because the alarms woke me to take the meds before the pain did. However today I tried to add an hour to the time between doses to see if I can tolerate less frequent meds. (The goal, of course, is to taper of the meds.)  For my right foot it took about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks and after that little one hour experiment this afternoon, I can safely say:  it’s too soon!

I also noticed today soreness in the space next to my big toe. Peering under the ace bandage, I was surprised to see that there was blood which had seeped through the gauze. The literature I have about the surgery said that this is common, and also it seems to be completely dry so it may have happened days ago. Tomorrow is my first follow up visit. They will change the dressing and examine the wound so I’m not worried about it.

My “nurse” (bless him!) took me out in the wheelchair today for some air. I bought the chair secondhand when I had my first foot operation so that I could enjoy a little spring air. Now it’s turning to fall, and it’s still a joy to get out.

I “Welbied” a little today too, which is a small triumph when mostly I want to doze.
